Descripción del curso

Combining notions of Classical Arabic and Levantine dialect, this course is tailored for anyone wishing to learn the language and interact with the Lebanese environment. We consider that Arabic needs to be practiced on a daily basis to encourage and motivate the student to communicate, for this purpose a combination of Dialect and bases of Modern Standard Arabic is a must.

For students interested in strictly learning MSA, this program is the right one for you. The MSA program goes through all the steps of the learning process, all levels are accepted from complete beginners to C level students.

The curriculum at the Levantine Institute of Tripoli (LEVIT) relies on several manuals such as “Al Kitaab” from Georgetown University Press, or “Easy Arabic Reader” by Jane Wightwick that are used in most of the Arabic departments around the world.

However, these books have proven to be incomplete if used each on their own. Therefore, the methodology we follow is a mix of multiple contents: written, audio and video. Classes are structured on a balance between technical: grammar, rules, exceptions and intuitive: musicality, mnemonic triggers, oral traditions and pronunciation in order to achieve the four key competencies: oral and written production and oral and written comprehension.

The purpose is to live and learn the Arabic language as a whole, through its culture, history, anecdotes and actual connections and communication with the context and the humans who populate it. The LEVIT considers that classes only give you the keys to express yourself and a great deal of the work needs to be done outside of the classroom. This is why we chose Tripoli: it is a place where any student can easily practice what they learned during the courses.

Ubicación

El Levantine Institute of Tripoli ofrece cursos de árabe de alta calidad para extranjeros y expatriados árabes que enseñan dialecto levantino y árabe estándar moderno (MSA).

El Instituto también ofrece oportunidades de voluntariado para enseñar francés, inglés y / o participar en diferentes programas relacionados con la educación en asociación con ONG locales en el norte del Líbano.

El propósito es vivir y aprender el idioma árabe en su totalidad, a través de su cultura, historia, anécdotas y conexiones reales y comunicación con el contexto y los seres humanos que lo pueblan. El LEVIT considera que las clases solo le brindan las claves para expresarse y que gran parte del trabajo debe realizarse fuera del aula. Por eso elegimos Trípoli: es un lugar donde cualquier estudiante puede practicar fácilmente lo que aprendió durante los cursos. A través de una asociación con las ONG locales y el Centro Maan para niños ubicados dentro de nuestras instalaciones, recomendamos encarecidamente a los estudiantes de LEVIT que se ofrezcan como voluntarios e interactúen tanto como puedan con la comunidad local.

Además de las clases privadas, el LEVIT ofrece dos programas:

El programa Levantine Immersion lleva a los estudiantes de la conversación y el vocabulario básicos del día a día a temas más complejos según el progreso. La enseñanza también se enfoca en usar los orígenes de las palabras, las similitudes y las diferencias entre lo coloquial y lo literal, y una explicación de las reglas gramaticales que estructuran el dialecto. Aprenderá a hablar el Levantino y obtendrá información de antecedentes sobre la forma formal de la lengua árabe. Las clases avanzadas abordan temas sociopolíticos de nuestra región, así como cultura, literatura y medios de comunicación.

El programa MSA (árabe estándar moderno) para todos los niveles, basado en la misma filosofía interactiva. Comenzando con las clases para principiantes, nuestro programa de MSA lleva lo básico de la alfabetización árabe a temas especializados que se enfocan en periodismo, política, relaciones internacionales y sociología para los niveles más avanzados. Para cumplir con los estándares internacionales de MSA, el LEVIT se basa principalmente en el libro "Al-Kitaab".

Ubicación

Tome un taxi hasta la estación de autobuses Charles Helou en Beirut. Un autobús Connex sale a Trípoli cada 30 minutos, hay wifi disponible a bordo. Una vez llegado al destino final del autobús, Sahet el Nour, puede caminar hacia el norte hacia la calle Azmi Beik, es una caminata de 10 minutos, estamos ubicados a 100 metros en la calle Azmi a la izquierda.

También es posible caminar desde el lugar central alto (donde se encuentra el reloj otomano) hasta el LEVIT. Desde Tall es un paseo de 5 minutos.

"Not what I expected"

I had two teachers. The one I had in group lesson was great, she has put lot of efforts to teach outside of the box. I have progressed and improved a lot thanks to her dedication. The second teacher wasn’t very professional and didn’t have a lot of experience teaching foreign students since she has been teaching kids until then. Curriculum very disappointing, with little consistency.

The administration is overall not organised. No one was here for the check in at the house, I had to wait one hour for them to send one of their maintenance staff. There was no wifi in the house and no indication or welcome tips for you to get around. The house was more like an annex of the office institute. The administration staff will often show up without any notice. They also gave the key to one of the student for her to have her class in our house with again no notification. The house had active cameras, I have asked several times to remove them, it’s only been covered one week before the end.

No activities took place, you must pay more if you want to participate. I wouldn’t recommend to book the taxi through the institute as they charge double the price.

All bills are included in the package as well as a weekly cleaning service, students will only have to pay for their food and transportation.

The cost of living in Tripoli is about 50% cheaper than in Beirut.

Our apartments are all equipped with a Wifi connection and are fully furnished, bed sheets included.
